Education at St George’s College

St George’s College is a co-educational, bilingual school catering for day, weekly and full boarding students. As well as accepting many local students, the School encourages the entry of pupils who are not Argentine nationals or who live in the interior of Argentina or whose parents may live abroad.

Full boarders live on campus even during weekends; they come from both the interior of the country and abroad. Weekly boarders live on campus Monday through Friday; they get to Buenos Aires by school bus on Friday afternoon, returning to school on Sunday afternoon or Monday mornings by their own means.

Flexi boarders are day students who sleep over campus for special reasons, including parents´ trips; theatre rehearsals; sports training sessions before tours and so forth. It is a great option for families with working parents as students can manage their after-school time more effectively since they do not have to travel back home.

Admissions Process

The candidate´s participation in the Admissions process does not guarantee his/her entrance to St George’s College. This will depend on the availability of vacancies, the candidate´s entrance exams performance and the values shared both by the school and the prospective family.

Admissions Placement

K1: Children who will be 3 years of age on or before June 30 of the year registered may be admitted to the K1 class.

K2: Children who will be 4 years of age on or before June 30 may be admitted to K2.

K3: Children who will be 5 years of age on or before June 30 may be admitted to K3.

Before being admitted to the Kindergarten children will have an interview with their future teachers with the presence of the Kindergarten Psychologist. Parents will be interviewed by the Head of Section.

Pupils who will be 6 years of age on or before June 30 of the year registered may be admitted to 1st Year. The appropriate ages for higher grades are: EP 2 – 7; EP 3 – 8; EP 4 – 9; EP 5 – 10; EP 6 – 11.

Candidates will be given a written levelling test in English and Spanish language and a written test in Maths. Their parents will be interviewed by the authorities of the Section.

The pupil’s academic and disciplinary record will also be taken into consideration.

Pupils will normally be admitted on the basis of a satisfactory performance in the School Levelling Entrance Examination.

All candidates to the College will sit for tests in Spanish and English Language and Mathematics.

Entry to ES 5 will depend on the candidate obtaining good IGCSE, or equivalent examination results, his / her previous school’s recommendation and an interview with the Heads of College.

Entry to ES 6 will be possible if the candidate has completed the first year of the IB programme. Likewise, admission will depend on his / her previous school’s recommendation and an interview with the Heads of College.

The main requirements for entry are that the student will be capable of pursuing a rigorous academic programme, that the student will benefit from and contribute towards the sporting and cultural activities offered by the School, and that the student’s presence will enrich the atmosphere of the School.

Our Secondary school has the privilege to offer a national programme of education fully integrated with the international curricula (PYP, IGCSE and IB Diploma). Our Special Bilingual Integrated Plan enables all students to obtain the “Spanish-English Bilingual Bachelor degree, Arts & Literature oriented, with Curricular Options in Humanities; Sciences; Creative Arts; Sports and Economics”. The programme and syllabus are fully bilingual and every student has to take both the National and International Baccalaureate at the same time.

It will be expected that candidates taking subjects at IB level will normally have studied them at IGCSE and obtained a satisfactory grade. However failure to do this does not automatically exclude any student from entering the full IB Diploma programme. A good performance in the IB Diploma examination has international credibility and acceptability amongst the private national and international universities.

Admissions Policy

All candidates for entry to the School have to undertake the School’s levelling entrance examination and have an interview with the appropriate Heads of Section.

Preference is given to pupils with good academic potential. The school will look for evidence of good character and sound moral values. Every candidate is expected to make the best use of the academic; social; artistic and sports opportunities offered by the school, which will enrich and strengthen the candidate’s skills and weaknesses, respectively. Candidates are also expected to accept their responsibilities and observe the Official College Rulebook, thus setting a role model to both his/her peers and the school community.

There are no automatic admissions to St George’s College. However, priority will be given to children and grandchildren of Old Georgians and to those who have brothers or sisters already enrolled at the College. Similarly preference will be given to first language English speakers and students from the International Community.

At the transfer stage from Kindergarten to Prep and then to College priority is given to pupils already attending St George’s. However, attendance at the Kindergarten or Prep does not mean automatic entry to the following school section. EP6 students passing from Prep to College must take entrance levelling examinations to determine their appropriate academic setting. Their attitude is also evaluated and as with candidates they all have a personal interview with the Heads of Section.

The Head of each Section is responsible in consultation with the Headmaster for the admission of all new pupils to their section. Once the admission procedures have been satisfactorily completed, assignment to a given year will be made.
