Education at St George’s College

St George’s College North is a co-educational, bilingual school catering for day students. As well as accepting many local students, the school encourages the entry of students who are not Argentine nationals.

Our school has the privilege to offer a national programme of education fully integrated with the international curricula: Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Diploma, IGCSE & Trinity examinations. Our Special Bilingual Integrated Plan enables all students to obtain the “Spanish-English Bilingual Bachelor degree, Arts & Literature oriented, with Curricular Options in Humanities; Sciences; Creative Arts and Sports”.

Admissions Process

The candidate’s participation in the Admissions process does not guarantee his/her entrance to St George’s College North. This will depend on the availability of vacancies, the candidate’s entrance exams performance and the values shared both by the school and the prospective family.

Admissions Placement

Pre-K: Children who will be 2 years of age on or before June 30 of the year registered may be admitted in Pre-K.

K1: Children who will be 3 years of age on or before June 30 may be admitted in K1.

K2: Children who will be 4 years of age on or before June 30 may be admitted in K2.

K3: Children who will be 5 years of age on or before June 30 may be admitted in K3.

Before being admitted in Kindergarten, K2 and K3 candidates are interviewed by our educational psychologist from the Learning Centre. Parents will be interviewed by the Head of Kindergarten.

Students who will be 6 years of age on or before June 30 of the year registered may be admitted to 1st Year. The appropriate ages for higher grades are: Year 2 – 7; Year 3 – 8; Year 4 – 9; Year 5 – 10; Year 6 – 11.

Candidates will be tested in the three main areas: English, Spanish and Maths. Their parents will be interviewed by the Head of Primary.

The candidate’s academic and disciplinary record will also be taken into consideration.

Students will normally be admitted on the basis of a satisfactory performance in the common entrance examination.

All candidates to Secondary will sit for written tests in Spanish, English Language and Mathematics.

Entry to ES 6 will be possible if the candidate has completed the first year of the IB programme and the combination of subjects presented by the candidate matches the profile of St George’s College North. Likewise, admission will depend on his/her previous school’s recommendation and an interview with the Heads of school.

The main requirements for entry are that the student will be capable of pursuing a rigorous academic programme, that the student will benefit from and contribute towards the sporting and cultural activities offered by the school, and that the student’s presence will enrich the atmosphere of the school.

It will be expected that candidates taking subjects at IB level will normally have studied them at IGCSE and obtained a satisfactory grade. However, failure to do this does not automatically exclude any student from entering the full IB diploma programme. A good performance in the IB Diploma examination has international credibility and acceptability amongst the private national and international universities.

The programme and syllabus are fully bilingual and every student has to take both the National and International Baccalaureate at the same time.

Admissions Policy

All candidates for entry to the school have to undertake a common entrance examination and have an interview with the appropriate Heads of Section.

Preference is given to students with good academic potential. The school will look for evidence of good character and sound moral values. Every candidate is expected to make the best use of the academic; social; artistic and sports opportunities offered by the school, which will enrich and strengthen the candidate’s skills.

There are no automatic admissions to St George’s College North. However, priority will be given to children of Old Georgians and to those who have brothers or sisters already enrolled at the school. Similar preference will be given to first language English speakers and students from the International Community.

At the transfer stage from Kindergarten to Primary and then to Secondary priority is given to students already attending St George’s. However, attendance in Kindergarten or Primary does not mean automatic entry to the following school section.

The Head of each Section is responsible in consultation with the Headmaster for the admission of all new students to their section. Once the admission procedures have been satisfactorily completed, assignment to a given year will be made.
